What ERO found

The Education Review Office’s latest report on the school is a School Evaluation Report from March 2025. ERO found that outcomes are improving for most students, with a large majority achieving at or above the expected curriculum level in reading, writing and maths, and that structured literacy has lifted progress in reading and writing.

Shared expectations for planning and teaching have made practice more consistent, teaching responds more closely to students’ needs, the curriculum draws on local history and stronger links with iwi and mana whenua, and families are regularly asked about their hopes for their children.

ERO also noted that results for Māori students and boys still lag, that students do not yet set goals and manage their own learning in the same way in every class, and that less than half of students attend school regularly.

The agreed next steps are to keep lifting progress in reading, writing and maths, with faster progress for students not yet at the expected level, make better use of assessment information to check what is working in teaching, make literacy and maths programmes consistent across the school, and review and monitor strategies to raise regular attendance.
