Waterfalls In Rotorua

Beautiful Waterfalls throughout the Rotorua region

The Rotorua district has several waterfalls worth seeking out, most of them free to visit and reachable by short walks through native bush. Tarawera Falls is the largest — a dramatic drop into a bush gorge near Lake Tarawera, accessed via a 90-minute return walk. Tutea Falls drops 7 metres into the Kaituna River near Okere Falls and is visible from the river canyon track. Cascade Falls sits in the Ōkātaina Scenic Reserve, reached by a short track through regenerating forest. And then there’s Kerosene Creek — a geothermal hot waterfall where the water runs warm year-round, making it one of the few places in New Zealand you can swim in a natural hot waterfall.
